Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mettā?

Mettā is a members-only global platform for entrepreneurs where people, ideas and resources are connected with the purpose of furthering business opportunities.

What is Fashion Product Lab?

It is a first-of-its-kind, 8-week programme powered by Mettā in a bid to enhance the sustainability of early-stage African fashion businesses. The lab is designed to support designers and give them access to work with fashion-focused technology companies to launch their brands, showcase collections and scale their businesses. The Fashion Product Lab provides designers with the resources they need in order to transform ideas, commercialize their concepts and build successful businesses.

How does it work?

Designers selected from a pool of applications across the African continent go through an intensive curriculum designed to give fashion a holistic approach. The lab participants attend cost-free workshops, mentorship sessions, field visits and talks ranging from topics such as branding, intellectual property, design and accounting. The programme culminates with each of the designers presenting a collection and business model adopted through the knowledge acquired during the 8 weeks. This presentation is made in the form of a runway show graced by fashion experts as well as international investors.

Who can apply?

Any fabric fashion designer from within the African continent can apply. There is no age limit, however, any fashion house that applies must be in its early-stages (start-up).

How can I apply?

Round 1 is carried out through a brief online application and is quickly followed by a second round selection in the form of a pitch day. Unfortunately, applications for the 2016 cohort are now closed. You can however follow the programme activities and look out for 2017 application dates through the website.
